The readystatechange event is fired when the readyState attribute of a document has changed.

Properties

Property Type Description
target Read only EventTarget The event target (the topmost target in the DOM tree).
type Read only DOMString The type of event.
bubbles Read only Boolean Whether the event normally bubbles or not.
cancelable Read only Boolean Whether the event is cancellable or not.

Example

document.readyState === "complete";
// true


// alternative to DOMContentLoaded
document.onreadystatechange = function () {
    if (document.readyState === "interactive") {
        initApplication();
    }
}

Browser compatibility

This event has long been supported by Internet Explorer and can be used as an alternative to the DOMContentLoaded event (see note [2] in the Browser compatibility section).
